Model of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex RSC bound to a nucleosome
"ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes utilize the energy from ATP hydrolysis to non-covalently alter the structure of nucleosomes. We are interested in understanding the mechanistic basis of this remodeling activity. We have obtained an initial reconstruction of RSC, an ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex from S.cerevisiae using electron microscopy and single-particle approaches. A micrograph is shown in the background and RSC in grey. The complex has a large central cavity showing a striking surface complementarity with a nucleosome (modeled in yellow), suggesting this might be the binding site for its substrate."
